Oh, those magic words that mean “I’m breaking up with you, but I don’t want you to feel bad about it”. Or quite possibly “we went on 2 Tinder dates, and you chewed with your mouth open both times, so this is clearly not going to work out”. We’ve all been there.
Anyway, this isn’t a song about despairing for what could have been, but celebrating what IS: being single!
I did my senior year of high school through corrsepondence in order to focus on my ballet training, and thus, never went to my prom. Not that I had designs on going anyway.
I did, however, always fantasize about being in the band that played prom, like so many a Marty McFly, but somehow, I could never get a band going in high school, which is funny, because forming a band in high school was just something that I assumed everyone would want to do.
In a way, every one of our shows makes me feel like I’m in a prom band. But, you know, with less acne. Also, nobody has to sneak rum into the punch, because everyone at our shows is of legal drinking age already.
Shaken stirred, and so unsure
Describe me to a tee
When facing down the fairer sex it’s
Easier to flee
Into imagination, where at least I have a chance
When I think about my favorite
Female from Japan
Anime lady, looks so fine
With a waist too small, and eyes too wide
To be like any girl I’ve ever met
I’ve ever met
Magic maiden from Japan
She’s so reserved, it’s hard to stand
Because we haven’t even said
A word to one another yet
Come on, Nippon
A childhood friend with hot pink hair that
Blushes every time
She turns to me and clearly sees I’m
Starin’ at her from behind
We’ll pause for just a moment
While the sweat hangs on our brows
And in a single frame we’ll both be
Lyin’ on the ground
Anime lady, looks so fine
With a waist too small, and eyes too wide
To be like any girl I’ve ever met
I’ve ever met
Magic maiden from Japan
She’s so reserved, it’s hard to stand
Because we haven’t even said
A word to one another yet
Come on, Nippon
I’m in love, I’m so astounded
By her, but I’m so confounded
Taken by her charms
With no idea what I should do
With twenty thousand things to say I’m
Positive she feels the same
We’re both too shy and too kawaii
To make a single move
Cherry blossom festival we’re
Finally face to face
While fireworks ignite the sky my
Heart begins to race
Her silky skin, it feels like sin
It’s so hard to believe
We’re holding hands, but then I can when
My nose starts to bleed
Anime lady, looks so fine
With a waist too small, and eyes too wide
To be like any girl I’ve ever met
I’ve ever met
Magic maiden from Japan
She’s so reserved, it’s hard to stand
Because we haven’t even said
A word to one another yet
Come on, Nippon
