This one is an interesting blend of 70s disco production with 90s house music, specifically with regards to the piano rhythm. Lyrically, it came from seeing numerous clickbait posts about “the things that millenials are killing”. This is also the first Raspberry Pie song to feature live strings, and getting them tracked was a true team effort. Having finished everything else on the track, we booked 3 hours of studio time at Castle Door Studios in Orlando for string recording. The day of the session, one of our three violinists had an emergency, and had to cancel at the last second. With less than 4 hours until the downbeat, I called and messaged anyone that might be able to hook us up with a string player at the last minute. As luck would have it, we found our replacement player 2 hours before the session was due to start, and she even happened to be a Raspberry Pie fan! When we got into the studio and started recording, it dawned on me that although I had written the arrangement, I had no idea what I wanted to do with the dynamics of the string performance, and handed the baton (quite literally) off to Goodwin, who has an actual understanding of conducting and dynamics. Needless to say, he did an incredible job, and his dynamic control of the strings really made the feel of the finished track.
